Gold is the most
precious of all metals. It is so precious because it is so rare. It is found in
only a few places in the world. Gold is also the most beautiful of all metals.
Its bright yellow colour is very pretty. It takes a fine polish. It is also a soft
metal. So it can be easily worked. Gold is used to make ornaments, like rings, bracelets
and brooches. The crowns of kings are made of gold. There used to be gold coins,
too, like the English sovereign. A sovereign was a small coin, about as big as
an Eight-Anna piece. But it was worth thirty Eight-Anna pieces. For gold is much
precious than silver. The word “gold” sometimes means money. When we say a man loves
gold, we mean money.
